By whatever name you know them, beauty pageants, beauty contests, or scholarship competitions very often are not ALL about hair and make-up, pretty pageant gowns, pageant swimsuits, or just about physical beauty or fitness.
Or at least many of them are not and no matter what sort of pageant you enter they don’t have to be if you bring a personal and professional development mindset to it and realize there is more to life than winning. And most of the pageant girls I meet know that! I just wish more of the world outside the pageants knew it, eh!? Together we can help raise the bar in pageantry and raise the awareness that the contestants are more than just pretty faces.
Indeed, there’s so much more that goes into beauty than the surface level items and many pageants are aware of that and look for it. But, more importantly, thinking about something outside ourselves helps us be better and happier on a day-to-day basis.
Thus, if you haven’t yet, I recommend you consider how a pageant can be a spring board to a wide variety of great things beyond looking beautiful on the outside. Check out the following links and see if they give you some ideas…

Remember, even if you don’t have the time or money to give, just being your BEST self–your kindest and most tactfully honest self–is an important way of giving to each person we encounter. We all have bad days, and we all have a right to focus on ourselves to varying degrees, but remember, please, to treat people nicely the best you can as you never know what kind of day they’ve had and how much your kindness might be an important comfort to them even if you don’t know it. 🙂
