Fall/Winter Fragrances 2014

Written By Shreya Wadkar

It's that time of year once again, ladies. Cozy sweaters, knit scarves, and patterned leggings abound. And as the weather becomes cool and the leaves begin to change their colors, there's something else due for a change as well.

That's right, I'm talking about perfume. No pageant girl feels complete without a signature fragrance. And it's always fun to switch up fragrances a couple times a year to reflect the atmosphere and get yourself into the mood for the upcoming seasons. And while spring and summer are the time for something light and floral and fresh, autumn and winter call for something different.

Traditional fall and winter scents are a little bit heavier than spring/summer scents. Start by looking for fragrances that are woodsy or musky to achieve that depth. Fragrances with notes of amber, white musk, cedar, patchouli, and sandalwood all have these qualities.

Additionally, we all know that fall is time for pumpkin-spiced everything and winter calls for apple cinnamon galore, so you can evoke this aroma by finding scents that are warm and spicy with top notes of clove, cinnamon, cardamom, and bergamot. You might also want to look for fragrances that contain oriental top notes such as vanilla, mandarin orange, vanilla, balsam, and resin.

It's worth a mention to always remember that with perfume, a little spritz goes a long way. Anything that can be smelled from across the room or that is too overpowering can be very off-putting, especially if your fellow pageant contestants or judges happen to have environmental allergies.

Also, don't be afraid to layer scents with a similarly scented body lotion. Even a simple vanilla body lotion can layer beautifully with fragrances to create depth. Try not to wear contrasting body scents in body lotion, however, as it can have an undesirable effect.

Without further ado, let's take a look at a few enticing fragrances for you to consider wearing during your fall and winter beauty pageants!

Dolce and Gabbana's The One

This is a personal favorite of mine, and it's perfect for fall and winter. It is a bold and warm scent with oriental notes. While it does contain fruity notes of citrus and lychee, these are contrasted beautifully by the vanilla, amber, and musk base of the perfume.

Gucci's Première

This fragrance is undoubtedly a luxurious one. It's heady and sensual and dramatic. And it is a gorgeous scent for those looking to make a statement, which is certainly apt for you pageant ladies. It has top notes of bergamot and orange blossom, layered with leather, musk, and white flower.

Givenchy's Dahlia Divin

This is a new fragrance with a sophisticated and timeless fall scent, fitting for a pageant contestant who embodies grace and elegance. It is both woodsy and sweet, but in a very subtle way. It has notes of jasmine and golden fruit, along with sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver.

Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid

This is another mesmerizing oriental fragrance for the cooler seasons. It is vibrantly rich with warm, spicy top notes. Not only that, but it is also intoxicating in its depth and contains cool citrus, rum, honey, and floral notes.

What perfume will be your go-to fragrance for the fall and winter seasons?
